What to Pack for a Trek in Bhutan
We provide tents, sleeping bags, mats, dining equipment, and kitchen supplies. You need to bring your personal clothing and a few essentials. Here is what we recommend based on fifteen years of leading treks at altitude.

- Warm fleece or down jacket (temperatures drop sharply after sunset)
- Waterproof shell jacket and trousers
- Broken-in trekking boots with ankle support
- Lightweight camp shoes or sandals
- Three to four pairs of wool or synthetic trekking socks
- Two or three moisture-wicking base layers (avoid cotton)
- Trekking trousers — zip-off legs are practical
- Thermal leggings for cold nights
- Warm hat, sun hat, and gloves
- Sunglasses with UV protection
Gear
- Daypack (25-35 litres) for water, camera, and layers
- Waterproof duffel bag for gear carried by horses
- Trekking poles (highly recommended for descents)
- Headlamp with spare batteries
- Two water bottles (minimum 2 litres total)
- Water purification tablets as backup
- Small quick-dry towel
- Camera and extra memory cards
Personal Items
- Sunscreen (SPF 50+), lip balm with SPF, insect repellent
- Basic first-aid kit with blister plasters and personal medication
- Diamox if you are prone to altitude sickness (consult your doctor)
- Toiletries in travel sizes — biodegradable soap preferred
- High-calorie snacks and energy bars for between meals
- A good book for rest days in camp
