Overview
An extra day makes all the difference. You get everything in the four-day trip plus a morning at the National Textile Museum, a detour to the hilltop nunnery above Thimphu, and enough breathing room to linger over a second cup of butter tea.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Welcome to Paro Valley
Your plane threads through the Himalayan peaks and drops into the green bowl of Paro Valley. We explore the stately Paro Dzong and Kyichu Lhakhang, a 7th-century temple so sacred you can practically feel the centuries of devotion humming in the walls. The evening is yours to wander Paro's sleepy main street.
Discovering Thimphu
The drive to Thimphu follows the river through a gorgeous valley. We visit the Memorial Chorten, the national painting school, the National Library, the Takin enclosure, and the imposing Tashichho Dzong as the evening light turns its walls to gold.
Thimphu — Deeper Into Culture
Today we go deeper — the colossal Buddha Dordenma, the Textile Museum, the Folk Heritage Museum, and Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress in Bhutan, standing guard since 1629.
Tiger's Nest — The Iconic Climb
Back in Paro, today you tackle the legendary Tiger's Nest. The hike climbs through fragrant pine forest until suddenly that impossible monastery appears, perched on a cliff 900 meters above the valley like something from a dream. The sense of accomplishment on the way down is immense.
Morning Calm and Departure
Your last morning in Bhutan is deliberately unhurried — sleep in, enjoy breakfast, maybe take a quiet walk through the rice paddies as the mist lifts off the valley. Then off to the airport for that spectacular flight back through the peaks.
